Ribery happy to prolong stay at Bayern

BERLIN (AFP) - French midfielder Franck Ribery insists he is enjoying his time at Bayern Munich after some world-class performances and has hinted he would be happy to see out his career with the German giants.
The 24-year-old is setting the Bundesliga on fire and Bayern captain Oliver Kahn described him as the "new Zinedine Zidane" after he scored in last weekend's win which put the league leaders seven-points clear. Having taken over Bayern's number seven shirt from Germany international Mehmet Scholl - who spent 15 years in Munich before retiring last season - Ribery admits he sees no reason to leave. "I am enjoying every minute here and feel happy," Ribery told German magazine Sports Bild with his contract set to run until the end of June 2011. "I was actually accepted from the outset in Munich with a warmth I have rarely experienced before. "That gave me confidence to express myself on the field." Bayern have the treble of the Bundesliga, German Cup and the UEFA Cup in their sights, but Ribery says new players would be needed to strengthen next season's likely Champions League campaign. "We have created a measuring stick, I already think that we will get a few more new players to strengthen the squad." |
