LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Swiss World Cup midfielder Raphael Wicky, who has 75 caps in a career that has featured stops at Hamburg and Atletico Madrid, signed with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer here Monday.

The 30-year-old standout from the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2004 played last season for FC Sion, the Swiss squad where he played from 1993 through 1997 in his professional debut.

Wicky went to Werder Bremen from 1997 to 2000 and spent the 2000-2001 season at Madrid before jumping back to the Bundesliga with Hamburg until last year.

"We're happy to add a player of Raphael Wicky's credentials," Chivas USA coach Preki said. "Raphael is a talented guy who can play in central midfield or on the left wing and who has also played in defense."

The MLS club began pre-season workouts Monday ahead of next month's MLS opener.
