Sir Alex Fergusson, manager of Manchester United

Manchester United’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he was not particularly perturbed by the challenge that may come out of neighbours Manchester City this season.

He added that in his years at Manchester United he had seen the emergence of both Arsenal and Chelsea and that he and his club had weathered those storms.

However his counterpart at Liverpool, Rafa Benitez, had said earlier that life at Merseyside would be far more difficult after the Abu Dhabi United Group investment at Manchester City.

Asked about the interest shown by City in Cristiano Ronaldo Sir Alex said that they can talk. The price that has been mentioned is around ₤135 million.

Sir Alex did spare a thought for his former striker and current manager of Manchester City by saying that the pressure on the young manager could be far too great.
