Quick Report: Poland 1-1 Slovenia

Poland manager Leo Beenhakker

WARSAW (SW) - Poland have begun their World Cup qualifying campaign with a rather disappointing home draw with Slovenia.

The Polish, who made an appearance at the recent European Championships, took the lead after just sixteen minutes when Zewlakow scored from the penalty spot.

But the Slovenians refused to give up and equalised through Dedic in the 34th minute.

Poland, led by manager Leo Beenhakker, have been unable to win in the last six matches, including three Euro 2008 group phase games and two friendlies.

These two teams share Group 3 with Slovakia, the Czech Republic, San Marino and Northern Ireland.

Nice result for Slovenia. Maybe this means that Slovenia is finally prepared for a possible qualification for a bigger tournament although I still think that this group may as well be a tad too difficult. Poland, Czech Republic should be a class of their own and N. Ireland should also be somewhere up there. San Marino is an outsider and Slovakia could be somewhere around Slovenia. But I still hope Slovenia can make a miracle and qualify and if possible, dump Poland out of next WC.
