SKOPJE (SW) - Scotland have lost their opening match in their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, as FYR Macedonia successfully defended an early lead.

Naumoski put the home side ahead after just five minutes, scoring in the rebound after a free kick.

Scotland did try to do something back in the second half but the heat in Skopje, Macedonia's capital city, didn't help things either for the visiting side.

Consequently, 'FYROM' are the first leaders in Group 9 of the European qualifiers. Iceland and Norway face later today, while group favorites Holland start their campaign on Wednesday.

All of those former Yugoslav Republic teams can be trouble, I think Bosnia was the only one that lost to Champs of Europe, Spain, Montenegro and Slovenia drew, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia won. One Macedonian plays for Ipswich, they surely have other players in the leagues of Europe..
