Quick Report: Cyprus 1-2 Italy

Jonathan Roorda - 6 September 2008 23:02

Antonio Di Natale scored both goals

NICOSIA (SW) - Italy needed a very late goal to push aside Cyprus and earn their first three points on the road to World Cup 2010.

The current world champions did start well with Antonio Di Natale scoring after just eight minutes.

But the Cypriots, who have been giving several major sides some serious troubles in recent years, levelled the score through Aloneftis twenty minutes later.

The match headed for a draw but the Italians finally managed to avoid dropping valuable points at such an early stage as Di Natale netted his second of the night in stoppage time.

Italy's main rivals in Group 8 are Ireland and Bulgaria, although the latter only just managed a draw versus Montenegro earlier today.

NakedWake, OK, but let's not go overboard. After all, it was against Cyprus. Even Greeks and Turks don't know where Cyprus is!

you should know that any win is a good win. The only stats that matter are the ones in the W-D-L columns. Everything else is meaningless.

you may say that it was only a win against Cyprus, but don't forget that it was pure luck that helped the italians to win the match and to be honest i don't think they deserved it. the cypriots played better and deserved some more!!
