MADRID (SW) - Spain is considering to join the race for the hosting of the 2008 World Cup. This was revealed by the country's FA president in an interview with Radio Marca.

Angel Maria villar, chairman of the RFEF, told the radio station that the association would like to research whether hosting the tournament would be possible, and added that "there is a chance that we will submit our candidacy".

If Spain choose to do so, they face some serious competition with nations as England, Russia, the Netherlands & Belgium, the United States and Australia considering a bid as well.

The 2018 tournament is likely to be held in Europe, North America, Asia or Australia. Africa is represented with South Africa in 2010, while South America have Brazil as hosts in 2014.

Well we have a new blood in the town. Someone here doesn't know anything about football in Spain. Though my friend, here we are talking about hosting World Cup, Spain can be a strong contender of the nomination because Spain will have more stadiums than Germany or Austria-Switzerland. They are one of the prime Footballing nations so you just can't write Spain off.

Somehow I doubt the USA is serious competition, considering the narrow fields and lack of public transit in the '94 World Cup.

Australia looks iffy, because it would mean three southern hemisphere World Cups back-to-back.

Also, is anyone copy editing these articles???? The non-AFP articles are full of mistakes and the passive voice.

Viva L'Espagna! More so, Viva L'Italia! It does not matter where the WC is played because Italy always has a good chance of winning it!

I'm all for Spain too, but only because the last time it was held there, Italy one. :-)
