Injury forces Silva to miss opening qualifiers

David Silva

MADRID (SW) - Bad news for Spain coach Vicente del Bosque, who already had to do without the injured Fernando Torres for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Valencia player David Silva is added to the list of absences as result of an ankle injury suffered this week.

Silva was one of Spain's most influential players during their successful Euro 2008 campaign, often serving the strikers from the wing or finding his way into the penalty area himself.

Spain begin their qualifying campaign versus Bosnia-Herzegovina and Armenia on Saturday and Wednesday respectively.

I'd like to someday see Bosnia get in on the world stage, new coach...I think they can potentially draw when they play in Bosnia if all of these Spaniards are injured. They've had moments.

Cile Car: we have two Bosnians here, but I don't really care to delve in to whether they are Serbs, Croats or Bosnians. I know all three live there, I know his name but I won't say. I've found the same name on google and it's still not clear what it might be.

If you're reffering to muslim people in Bosnia, then you should call them Bosniaks. Anyway I don't think Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH in short) can get to that stage at the moment. I mean, even Serbia and Croatia aren't always 100% sure to land places in the WC or Euro.

Cile_Car, noone thought Cyprus would draw Germany which they did in a qualifier and there are many more examples, I was just saying, this game as a one off: there are often surprise teams in the world cup and qualifiers. Even the top teams play cold at times under certain circumstances. Holland defeating Albania at the very end of the game but that was a game played with some bad tempers. I'm not saying they can take Europe by storm. I just enjoy watching the world game without really drawing lines on who is whom. Thanks for the response. I know they take the game seriously there.

Coming onto the big time means consistent scoring and wining. Serbia manages good games against big teams but then looses against Azerbaijan and Armenia. Slovenia on the other hand needs a better manager although the last game against Croatia showed promise.
