MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid's German coach Bernd Schuster admitted Monday that his side had lacked strike power after losing their season opener 2-1 to Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend.

"I didn't see any striker on the bench. I looked to my left and there was none, said Schuster, who has asked club management to bring in new forwards for the season. "We have no other choice but to attack the season with what we have," he added.

Real did not replace striker Roberto Soldado, who was sold to Getafe.

The club focused on their failed bid to sign Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, and Spanish international striker David Villa from Valencia.

Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola by contrast is spoilt for choice in his forward line with Samuel Eto'o, Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi, Bojan Krkic and Eidur Gudjohnsen, but they also lost their season opener 1-0 to promoted Numancia.

"We didn't know how to attack," said Guardiola.

Going for one player is suicidal, it's like Napoleon at Waterloo.

It doesn't meen that we will lose a war because we lost a battle. Real has enough good strikers. We saw what heppend to barcelona, which had a lot of stars in the team. We don't need CR and Villa.

You have Raul and van Nistelrooy. Robinho doesn't want to play and for some reason, Real isn't using Saviola. So looking from this angle, Real have 2 good strikers who are constantly playing.

Sneijder, van der Vaart are more of attacking midfielders while Robben is a winger. Higuain has more of a support striker role. The only true striker in the club is van Nistelrooy since as I've said, Schuster won't even consider Saviola. Oh and Raul isn't a true striker anymore since his usual position is behind van Nistelrooy so he is some kind of support attacker also.
