Rumours suggest that Benitez could be in line for ailing Juventus

Dave Cohen - 9 October 2008 18:56

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez

Liverpool supporters will want clarity over the rumours that their manager Rafa Benitez is being linked with a move to the ailing Juventus side in Serie A.

Current Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri has been under fire after his side’s indifferent start to this season’s campaign.

Rafa Benitez has also been criticised for the failure of the club to bring Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry to the club during the summer. Benitez has also been frustrated with the club for a while which may give credibility to the current rumours.

Already Jurgen Klinsman has been linked as the next Liverpool manager as his current tenure at FC Bayern Munich has also hit shaky ground with some unexpectedly poor results.

If he can bring the results like those he had at Valencia, then Juve go for him!

Benitez should stay put: a player or a coach leave places they are doing well and then do very poorly. Ramos should not have left Sevilla, Benitez needs to stay at Liverpool and if his time is ever out there, then we'll see.

Having mentioned Ramos: he was underminded by players leaving, so in that I don't find fault but these guys should still stay with their clubs.

Bayern probably never should have been the club for Klinsmann.

Today there's a tendency to believe that a great player would make a good coach. A good coach is one who understands the intricacies of the game. He is a "student" regardless of his playing skills. Correct me if i'm wrong but the best coaches have been those who never excelled in the playing field. Examples? Scolari, Lippi, Capello, Maurinho, Bearzot, Vogts, Advocaat, Hiddink, Menotti, etc..I do not know about this guy Benitez, but if he was a good player he would not necessarily make a good coach. Just look at superstars like Pele, Di Stefano, Maradona, Eusebio, etc. They knew better than to become a coach!

Fred,

I agree with you about most of the guys listed in your message.

However, Fabio Capello was a great midfield player, who played for Milan, Juventus and the Italian national team.

Giorgio, you're correct about Capello, but he was not a player reputed to be a superstar.
