Paraguay shock Italy at Futsal World Cup

Jonathan Roorda - 8 October 2008 23:19

The Futsal World Cup is currently being held in Brazil

BRASILIA (SW) - Brazil, Russia, Paraguay and Italy have qualified for the second round at the 2008 Futsal World Cup, which is currently being held in Brazil.

The Brazilians easily defeated Cuba 9-0 in their last First Round game, and top group A with twelve points from four matches and a staggering 49-1 goal record.

Russia were much too strong for Japan (9-1), with which they successfully defended their second place in this group.

A bigger surprise occurred in Group B, where Paraguay beat Italy 4-2 in their last game to finish the group in first position. The Italians end in second place.

Italy had been leading in two occasions, but the Paraguayans turned things around to take the victory.

The other two groups will be decided on Thursday, after which the second round commences on Saturday. This round consists of two groups of four teams each, of which the winners and runners-up advance to the semi finals.

I would love to know the players representing those countries. Considering the high scoring games the're posting, they must be amateurs.

Futsal World Cup? I've never heard of it. Is that Ping-Pong?

Fred,

This is 5-a-side soccer, played indoors on a very small pitch.

And this is umpteenth example that this website is biased. Not a single line of news, when Italy won all its previous matches, including against Portugal (one of the pre-tournament favourites).

Thanks guys. Now I know what Futsal is! I'm sure Italy can win this kind of tournament as well.

Bes Talent, I'm glad you found my posting silly. I am not much different from you after all!

Giorgio, I agree. This site is a bit biased, but in this case our site hasn't reported any previous results. Otherwise, Bes Talent would have found me to be silly much sooner!

Giorgio my friend, why not look at the report from a different angle and see it as a compliment to Italy’s superior quality that it was such a shock when Italy did get beat they felt it was worthy of a story! Is the cup half full or half empty?

NewtonHeath my Man,

I suppose you're right, the cup can be half full, or half empty, depending which way one looks at it.

And the same time, I'm sure you must have gathered that I'm not fanatical about these things.

But I do appreciate intelligent comments from people like you.
