ROME (AFP) - Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon and midfielder Mauro Camoranesi will miss their country's World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro, the national team said Tuesday.

The Juventus pair were ruled out of the October 11 and 15 games with muscle problems after undergoing medicals in Florence, where the national team are training.

Coach Marcello Lippi's selection for the two games has already been hampered by injuries to the likes of Marco Materazzi, Fabio Grosso, Andrea Pirlo and Vincenzo Iaquinta.

The defending champions top Group Eight after winning their first two qualifiers against Cyprus and Georgia.

while I'm sure the Azzuri will have no problem qualifying for the WC, it looks as though injuries will keep them from playing at their best. I'm not at all concerned about Montenegro, however, Bulgaria may give a younger, less talented squad some real fits.

The fact that Buffon and Camoranesi will not be available, due to injury, will not be a problem. There's lots of very good players in the Italian squad and Lippi will be able to field suitable replacements.

Giorgio, I would like to share your optimism, and I hope you're right, but against a strong side like Bulgaria (I'm glad Ajax72 is not listening), the absence of Buffon, Grosso, Pirlo and Iaquinta may prove to be determinant. After all, even in Italy good reserves don't grow on trees!
