GLASGOW (SW) - An early goal from Maxi Rodriguez earned Argentina a narrow win over Scotland in Diego Armando Maradona's debut as national team manager.

Only eight minutes had been played when a Maxi Rodriguez scored from a Gutierrez pass and the South Americans would hold on to their narrow but sufficient lead.

It was the first encounter between these two sides in 18 years. At the time, the Scottish beat reigning world champions Argentina 1-0.

Maradona and his assistant Bilardo now face the task of leading Argentina back to the top of the South American qualification group. Currently, the Argentinians are in third place at seven points from leaders Paraguay.
