RIO DE JANEIRO (SW) - Flamengo beat Palmeiras 5-2 to move into third place in the Brazilian Serie A and still have a reason to fight for the championship. Palmeiras meanwhile, had their title hopes practically demolished.
Ibson scored three of Flamengo's five goals, while the other two came from Marcelinho Paraiba and Kleberson respectively. Kleber and Alex Mineiro scored for Palmeiras.
League leaders Sao Paulo beat Figueirense 3-1 with two goals from Borges and one from Hugo, while second-placed Gremio secured a 2-1 victory over Coritiba. The home side's goals were scored by Tcheco and Heverton.
With three games to go, Sao Paulo have an advantage of two points over Gremio. Flamengo follow at another three points.
