ROME (AFP) - Italy coach Marcello Lippi named one new face to his 22-man squad for Wednesday's friendly in Greece by calling up Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino.

Lippi kept faith with a relatively young squad so D'Agostino's club team-mate Simone Pepe and Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi both kept their places.

But despite the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Gianluigi Buffon, Antonio Di Natale and Alberto Aquilani there was still no place for either Alessandro Del Piero or Antonio Cassano.

Del Piero's omission was no surprise as Lippi had said earlier in the month that he would use the match to have a look at some new blood.

"He will stay at home because he's someone I already know a lot about," he had said. "I want to freshen up the team and have a look at some new players, discover some new people."

World champions Italy have made a good start under Lippi's second stint in charge of the national team, winning three and drawing one of their first four World Cup qualifiers putting them top of Group Eight.

Greece are also top of Group Two after three wins and a defeat from their first four qualifiers.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Gianluca Curci (Siena), Morgan De Sanctis (Galatasaray/TUR)

Defenders: Daniele Bonera (AC Milan), Fabio Cannavaro (Real Madrid/ESP), Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus), Andrea Dossena (Liverpool/ENG), Alessandro Gamberini (Fiorentina), Fabio Grosso (Lyon/FRA), Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus)

Midfielders: Mauro Camoranesi (Juventus), Gaetano D'Agostino (Udinese), Daniele De Rossi (AS Roma), Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan), Christian Maggio (Napoli), Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina), Simone Perrotta (AS Roma)

Forwards: Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina), Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus), Simone Pepe (Udinese), Fabio Quagliarella (Udinese), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal/ESP), Luca Toni (Bayern Munich/GER)

I would have liked to see the 18 year old Mario Balotelli (Inter) with the Azzurri since it's just a friendly game.

Lippi is doing right by evaluating the younger talent. Balotelli is the one born to parents from Ghana, right? It would be nice to see him play. I think it's too political of a nation to see that happen. Too many people are set in their ways and don't want to see that happen. Italy is not as progressive as France and England.

Mario Balotelli has been playing for Italy's Under 21 for some time now. He's doing very well. I think he'll be called up for South Africa 2010.

Fred, the general trend nowadays is for clubs is to have a rich overseas investor. How about me for your club, I like the sound of the name; it has a real ring to it! The Red Devil Club!

newtonheath, I know! AC Milan and Manchester United have the same nickname! Even though you don’t cheer for Milan (but sympathetic to them because of me), I consider you a kindred spirit! Therefore I will promote you to "Mascot” of our Diavoli Rossoneri Club. Is that Ok with you?

The only true, and the worlds best "red devils" club is from Lisbon in Portugal. That is the nickname of the Glorious - Sport Lisboa and Benfica football team. Sorry to dissappoint my Italian and British cohorts. But I respect the connection with the nicknames amongst our respective clubs.

DaJohnner, correct me if I am wrong but Benfica are known either “The Reds” or “The Eagles” and as you have already stated “The Glorious Ones” not “The Red Devils”

Fred, do I have to dress up in one of those silly Mascot costumes?

Did you know that Uniteds mascot is a a big cuddly teddy type devil called Fred the Red, have a look.

Officially, they are not known as the red devils, but one of their fan clubs are known as "The Red Devils". So the distinction between being called "The Reds" and "The Red Devils" is often used to describe them. I think because Portuguese are very religious...they prefer to just call SLB "the reds" more often rather than "the red devils". ;-)
