LONDON (AFP) - Frank Lampard's current form has received timely recognition with the Chelsea midfielder being named the English Premier League (EPL)'s player of the month for October.
The award, from EPL sponsors Barclays, comes ahead of England's friendly with Germany in Berlin next week, for which coach Fabio Capello will again have to decide between Lampard and Steven Gerrard for the attacking, central midfield role that both players prefer.
It was the first time in three years that Lampard has won the monthly award and it is reward for a string of impressive performances capped by his delightful, angled chip against Hull, an early contender for goal of the season.
Lampard's form could not however prevent Liverpool from ending the club's 86-match unbeaten home record in the league, an achievement which ensured Reds boss Rafael Benitez picked up the manager of the month award.
