LONDON (AFP) - The Football Association on Friday charged Chelsea striker Didier Drogba with violent conduct after he threw a coin into the crowd during his club's League Cup defeat by Burnley.

Drogba's reaction to having been hit by a coin that was thrown at him from the stands leaves him liable for a three-match ban.

The incident is also being investigated by London police, who are expected to issue the Ivory Coast forward with a caution.

The Football Association have also written to Burnley seeking further information on the throwing of missiles from the Burnley section at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium.

I feel sorry for all those sanctimonious officials pointing the finger at Drogba. They must all be good Christians. "If someone strikes you in the face, turn the other cheek!"

fell sorry too, man. It makes me wonder what would be done if a white English player threw something at the crowd who disrespected him.

I'm a little unsure to what your point is felipeneis, but the answer to your question is a police caution and a 3 match ban. This was the punishment given to Jamie Carragher of Liverpool in 2002 for doing exactly the same thing and will, more than likely, be the punishment for Drogba. Or maybe we Englishmen just might chain the savage to the stocks and give him 60 lashes and bread and water for the week!

I can't say I blame Drogba for being frustrated for his safety. But I do think it's important to discipline him, as he could have made this much worse by inciting the crowd.

All this wouldnt happen if people go to see football and not throwing coins. May be he should take missiles to his face and shut up . I respect people who condamn both crowd and player ,but some blind ones here should learn still many things.

You complain about fans being disrespectful yet when a player retaliates he shouldn't see any punishments? I agree with mmroziak Drogba could have escalated this situation, and no one wants more violence plus league/match bans.

I guess this is in fact indecent behaviour. he should be penalised. Also Burnley should investigate the matter to find out who has done the act of throwing a coin at Drogba. I also feel that the players interest should also be considered well. We cannot let the safety of Players be jeopardised.

I firmly believe that the spectator who threw the coin at Drogba be also fined.

Not sure if this is what should be said, But should they not also be punishing the Burnley Team and Club. I mean what they are saying is, punish the retaliating player, and suspend him. Wont that make fans of home teams take out their opponents? Punish the Home Club, Fine them and take a way points. Thus the team and the Owners, and their security and dedicated fans will crack down on those who ruin the game .

Drogba is frustrated because his not playing first team. This ban won't change much, then :-) However, he should control himself. Shame on him!
