LISBON (SW) - Despite conceding no less than three red cards in their Portuguese Cup encounter with Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto somehow made it through to the next round.

The home side took the lead through Liedson on 29 minutes, but Porto's new signing Hulk levelled the score just before the half hour mark.

Porto then went down to ten in the 67th minute as Caneira picked up a second yellow card. And things got even worse when Pedro Emanuel earned his second caution as well and joined his teammate for an early shower.

No more goals were scored in regular and extra time and regular time was required at Jose Alvalade stadium in Lisbon.

Porto goalscorer Hulk became the away side's third player to be sent off with a second booking in the 116th minute, but his team managed to survive the last few minutes to force a penalty shoot-out.

Porto were the better side in that shoot-out, beating their rivals 5-4 to advance to the next round.

Caneira plays for Sporting, so that means Porto lost two players to red cards and sporting lost one.

DaJohnner, that's a very good point! Lately I've noticed that some Soccerway reporters are making a number of blatant errors. They seem to be confused about who's playing for which team and what the coaches' names are..

The worst thing on the match was the referee. So many mistakes in a single game! Incredible.

I`m happy for FQP`s win, but I´m still waiting for the team to improve their permorfance..

refereeing was atrocious...but then again its expected from the FPF so-called refs. Portugal needs to either train their guys better, or use foreign officials to help develop the overall level in Portugal.

I didn't watch the game, because I don't have TV (And, I won't have, Tontodonaty said that I'm my Santaclouse so no gifts for this Christmas). But this sound like the referee had only bad decisions against Porto this sounds like a conspiracy

Tarciturnio, if you live in Toronto, go to the nearest social services offiice in your area. There is one on Coxwell Ave, Charles St., Kennedy Road, Bloor St.. and one on Jane St. among many others. Just tell them that you need a TV and they will immediately buy one for you. Better still, mention my name, for I was a "regular" with them, and they may even buy 2 TV sets for you. In the unlikely event that they fail to help you, go to Sherbourne and Queen. The Salvation Army office is there. They also know me very well. Even if they wont buy you a TV set, yet they may accommodate you for the night! I love Canada. It's a great country. Good luck!

The must absurd of all... the referee got his permorfance rated "Good" by the referee`s committee! Greetz to everyone here (tugas and canadians/italians)
