Mourinho speaks out on Chelsea’s lack of trophies

Dave Cohen - 26 May 2008 06:46

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho

In an interview with the Observer on Sunday former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed that his former club had a bad season only because they finished close seconds in almost every competition in which they competed.

They lost the Premier League on the final day of the ten month season, lost the Carling Cup Final and lost the Champions League via a missed penalty kick.

He went on to add that after the successes over the past few seasons, no trophies mean a bad season. He felt sorry for both the supporters and players who deserved far more.

He concluded by saying that he regarded the players as his ‘boys’ and he also made it clear that, despite the speculation, he would not be rejoining the club he left in September 2007.

Patience. Ferguson's Man Utd won the league ten times under his reign. But the CL only two times... one of them being really really lucky with goals in the last two minutes of the match. We are speaking of the most successful team in the last 10-15 years here. There is no shortcut to success. And I think sending away Mourinho was a mistake. That a team dominated the world like Lyon dominates France right now happens only once in a century. In the last century this was Real Madrid. If Abramowich wants to dominate like them he better be patient and does not send away those people who could bring him such success.
