Borriello interested in Milan switch, but not as back-up
ROME (AFP) - Genoa striker Marco Borriello admitted on Monday he is interested in a move to Italian giants AC Milan, but not if that means playing second fiddle to other forwards at the club.
The 26-year-old has just enjoyed his best season to date, scoring 19 goals to finish third in the scorers charts and earning a call-up to Italy's pre-Euro 2008 training camp.
But he said he has no interest in spending next season confined to the substitutes bench.
"I see myself as a first or second choice striker, not fifth choice. In that case I'll stay at Genoa," he said.
Milan already own 50 percent of the player and are thought to want to bring him to the club with World Cup winning striker Alberto Gilardino allegedly heading to Fiorentina, who edged out Milan for a Champions League spot for next season.
"Milan and Genoa are talking about the co-ownership and soon I'll know what's happening in my future," said Borriello.
"If the president ... is happy with the offer from the rossoneri I'll be delighted to wear their jersey.
"If that's not the case, I won't be unhappy to stay at Genoa."
