FULL TIME - Zenit St Petersburg have won the UEFA Cup! And it was deserved as the Russians were the ones that showed most inspiration tonight. The 23 year old Denisov and his eight year older teammate Zyrianov earned their side this 2-0 victory, and the assist of both goals came from Arshavin.

Minute 90+3: GOAL ZENIT ST PETERSBURG (2-0) - KONSTANTIN ZYRIANOV gets the ball from the right and easily tips in to decide the clash!

Minute 90+3: Malafeev picked up a yellow card meanwhile, the only of the match which has been played in good spirits.

Minute 90+3: A late substitution for Zenit. The Korean Kim comes on for Fayzulin.

Minute 90+2: Nacho Novo gets a chance to shoot but the ball goes well over the Russian goal.

Minute 90+1: Darcheville is blocked by Zenit's Sirl, who has proven to be of great importance tonight.

Minute 90+1: Three minutes have been added by the Swedish referee. Zenit are just three minutes away from victory.

Minute 88: Rangers last substitution had Boyd coming on for Whittaker. Zenit still attacking meanwhile.

Minute 85: It's not so much Rangers that try to attack right now, but Zenit trying to score a second goal.

Minute 80: Rangers now with three forwards as McCulloch replaces Hemdani.

Minute 80: Arshavin finds Fayzulin in the area but the latter's effort goes over and wide.

Minute 77: Only the first substitution of the match as Spaniard Novo comes on for Papac in an attempt to give the Rangers more attacking power.

Minute 76: Another huge chance for the Russians but Zyrianov hits the left post from close range.

Minute 75: Great goal from Zenit, with a particularly good pass from Arshavin. Rangers have only 15 minutes left to do something back.

Minute 72: GOAL ZENIT ST PETERSBURG (1-0) - IGOR DENISOV receives a throughball from Arshavin and stays calm enough to push the ball past Alexander to finally break the deadlock.

Minute 70: Anyukov returned so he seems to be playing on. Just twenty minutes are left to full time.

Minute 69: Zenit's Anyukov seems hurt, and the player is currently receiving treatment.

Minute 68: It seems like the Rangers are taking it a little easier again and Zenit are back to doing most of the work.

Minute 64: Alexander misjudges an attack and allows Arshavin to continue with the goalkeeper away from his goal. The Russian fails to take advantage however as his curled shot is headed from the line.

Minute 64: Whittaker launches a shot on goal but it's blocked. A good opportunity for the Scottish.

Minute 62: Two corners in a row for Zenit but nothing comes of it.

Minute 60: It's particularly the Scottish side that now want to attack, whereas they were mostly quiet in the first half. Did they just play a game until now?

Minute 58: Finally some activity as the two teams suddenly show more motivation to fight for the ball. Now the only thing lacking is a goal.

Minute 55: Rangers want a penalty as someone handled the ball but the referee won't give it. It's only fair as a similar situation occured in the first half with Zenit not being awarded a spotkick.

Minute 54: Several chances in a row as there's chaos in Zenit's penalty area. The best is for Darcheville but the goalkeeper gets in the way.

Minute 51: The latest any team scored in the UEFA Cup final since the final of 2000, mentioned earlier, was in the 45th minute when Vicente put Valencia ahead against Marseille.

Minute 46: The second half has started. Let's hope for more action in the coming 45 minutes.

HALF TIME - It was a rather one-sided half with Zenit taking the initiative, but very few chances were actually created. Hopefully the second half will bring more action.

Minute 45+1: Alexander punches away but the following attack earns Zenit another corner kick. Again however, it's Alexander to get in the way.

Minute 45: Corner to Zenit. This should be the last chance of the first half.

Minute 44: Thomson shoots but hits the wall. The ball does eventually somehow end up behind the wall but a defender clears.

Minute 43: Rangers get a free kick from a dangerous position just outside Zenit's penalty area.

Minute 42: Zenit's Turkish striker Tekke gets the ball just inside the penalty area but fails to launch a shot on goal.

Minute 38: Since UEFA changed to single-leg UEFA Cup finals, only one match had its first half pass by without goals: Galatasaray - Arsenal in 2000. In fact, no goals were scored at all in that match and Gala eventually won on penalties.

Minute 29: Zenit are close to the opener with a powerful shot from Anyukov, but Alexander makes the save.

Minute 27: We may still be waiting for a goal in this match; the UEFA Cup finals have been quite spectacular in recent years. Most goals were scored in 2001, when Liverpool beat Alavés 5-4 in extra time.

Minute 21: We're in a slower phase of the match as Zenit are still trying to find a way through Rangers' defense while the Scottish side show little initiative.

Minute 17: An accidental header by Fayzulin goes over Alexander's crossbar.

Minute 15: Zenit are still in control of this match. The Russians are the ones that want to attack while Rangers look for opportunities to break through.

Minute 11: Free kick to Zenit and Sirl takes it. The shot is deflected but Alexander controls.

Minute 7: Darcheville almost finds a teammate in Zenit's penalty area but a defender clears the ball. That was the first dangerous moment from Glasgow Rangers.

Minute 5: Shot from far out by Tymoschuk, but it can't worry Rangers goalkeeper Alexander.

Minute 4: There's the first chance and it's Zenit's. Arshavin shoots but hits the side-net. The Russians were close there.

Minute 2: Zenit have been on the ball so far but no chances yet.

Minute 0: The match is underway at the City of Manchester Stadium!

Pre-match: The 2008 UEFA Cup final will be played at the City of Manchester Stadium in England. Swedish referee Peter Fröjdfeldt will be assisted by linesmen Stefan Wittberg and Henrik Andren and fourth official Martin Ingvarsson.

figured it would be a blowout by now the way zenit had been running, but rangers have played great defense.
