West Ham United FC have handed England Under-19 defender James Tomkins a long-term contract. The London club were keen to secure the homegrown player's future after he broke into the side last month, making his debut at Everton FC.

Tomkins, 19, said: "I have signed a contract extension. It is obviously good that West Ham have come to me and offered me one. I have got the contract and that gives me confidence."
