Quick Report: Russia 0-3 Spain

Jonathan Roorda - 26 June 2008 22:58

Luis Aragonés helped to lead Spain to the Euro 2008 final

VIENNA (SW) - Spain are through to the final of Euro 2008 following a very convincing 3-0 win over the Russians in the semi final on Thursday.

The Spaniards were the stronger side in the first half but never created a one hundred percent chance.

And there was bad news for the Iberians as star striker David Villa pulled a muscle in his upper leg when taking a free kick and had to come off.

His replacement Cesc Fabregas though, proved to be of great importance in the second half and improved the connections between midfield and attack.

The deadlock was broken in the 50th minute when Andrés Iniesta sent in a low pass for Xavi Hernández to put the ball between goalkeeper Akinfeev's legs.

And things got more certain for Spain in the 73rd minute. Fabregas found substitute Guïza with a great looping pass to beat the defense, and Guïza lobbed it over the goalkeeper to double the lead.

Things were really in the pocket for the Spanish when David Silva converted a Fabregas cross in the 82nd minute to make it 3-0.

Spain have three days to prepare for their third ever European Championships final, which will be played against Germany on Sunday.

Giorgio, Russia beat Holland 3-1. Spain could not score a goal against Italy and then they beat Russia 3-0. I don't get it! If we could only have won the penalty shoot-out! I think Germany will win this one!

yes... russia style of play is what the spaniards really like... they go up alot, leaving the back vulnerable... when they got one... easier to get another, and another....

italy, don't give spain much space to score a goal... plus, buffon is one hell of a keeper...

but... still, casillas beat buffon in the shoot out...

Holland beat Italy 3-0/the least they could do/, Russia beat Holland 3-1/still under investigation/, Spain beat Russia 3-0. So Spain should have beaten Italy 9-0 at least. You have been spared this humiliation by the dutch. One more reason to kneel down whenever an italian sees a dutch.

Ajax72, that's fine, but in sports losses and wins between various teams don't usually result in a commulative score! By the way, you supposed to be sleeping at this time. Don't you have to go to work tomorrow morning?

Sorry for this unfortunate post. Extended /too far/ family visiting, if you know what I mean. I was careless as i should have kept an eye on the computers at home. Should have known better.

I'm lucky as I don't have to keep office hours, I'm free as a bird. LOL.

Congratulations Spain - finally you get in a final to reflect some great soccer over the years. It is party time there. My loyalties are divided on the eventual winners but hope you can win championship.

Thus far the Spaniards have played great. One shouldn't try to see too much in their victories against a young, and inexperienced, Russian side.

Also, Spain got a little lucky against Italy; they never scored on the pitch and the penalty shootout could have gone either way.

Are the Spaniards going to beat Germany in the final ? I don't think so !!!!!

Ajax,

You seem to have this thing about Italians having to kneel whenever we see a Dutch person. Actually, Italians only kneel in church !!!

And I'm confused, what are you, Blgarian or Dutch ?? Please explain, once and for all.

And never forget that Holland got lucky against Italy, because that first goal was off-side. If that first off-side goal hadn't been validated, Holland would never have won against Italy !!!!!!!

Giorgio, last week Ajax72 ended the message he sent to me with an Italian phrase. I, being Italian, answered him accordingly. Now I'm going to send him a message in Bulgarian (Slavic?) and we shall see if he understands it. I believe he's either from Macedonia or from Lebanon!
