Barcelona make bid for Arshavin

Andrei Arshavin

ST PETERSBURG (SW) - Spanish giants FC Barcelona have shown interest in Russia and Zenit attacker Andrei Arshavin.

Arshavin have left a big impression this season by helping Zenit to win the UEFA Cup and playing a big part in Russia's presence in the semi finals stage of Euro 2008.

Zenit announced on Thursday: "Barcelona have made an official bid to buy Andrei Arshavin. Zenit St Petersburg will only begin negotiations when Andrei returns from the European Championships."

Arshavin himself has never hidden his interest in a possible move to Barcelona. Earlier this week the youngster spoke about Barcelona.

"I've been a fan of that club all my life, although I don't expect that I'll ever be able to play there. After Euro 2008, I'd like to leave Zenit, preferably for England or Spain."

It unbelievable how this Arshavin-mania spreads like forest fire. I can bet that 99% of all the coaches that are falling over themselves to sign him ever knew about his existance before this year's UEFA Cup final. And saw him in another two games since. Are they taking into consideration that he has played in an obscure russian club so far, in a second row league? He's 27 and he's never been abroad. Shall he adapt to the life in the west which is completely different from life in Russia? The guy has sure enough great talent but the past shows clearly that this isn't enough to prevent him from becomming the next flop. I do hope he will manage though.

Arshavin has proved to the world his class, first in the Russian league, then the UEFA CUP and now in the ever difficult euro, he has showed just how good a player he is, he would fit in perfectly in the barcelona team i think,

i think that every time barcelona changes their sence of style it goes against them.

remember what real madrid did in the 2006-2007 season???they were changing everything at the beginning and so they were loosing bad, nobody thought that they could win the title. later the manager changed nothing, and ever since then real madrid won 2 straight seasons
