French full of excuses, says Italy´s Panucci

AFP - 20 June 2008 19:33

Italy´s defender Christian Panucci, seen here addressing a press conference in Oberwaltersdorf, Austria, near Vienna on June 20, 2008, said France coach Raymond Domenech, who criticised the referee after his side´s loss to the Italians,

BADEN, Austria (AFP) - Italian defender Christian Panucci on Friday said France coach Raymond Domenech, who criticised the referee after his side's loss to the Italians, "always has excuses".

Domenech was furious that Italy were awarded a penalty and the French had Eric Abidal sent off in the process as they slid to a a 2-0 defeat which saw Italy win their re-run of the World Cup final.

But Panucci told a press conference in Baden the French handler's complaints were only par for the Domenech course.

"It's best not to comment on these kinds of declarations. But if I am forced to I'd say he was watching another match or didn't get a good view" of what happened.

"He always has excuses, going back to the time when he lost the Euro youth tournament to us in 1994. It's true, though, that the French were unlucky to lose (Franck) Ribery," who went off injured after just nine minutes.

But Panucci concluded that the French had to recognise that "Italy simply played a great match."

Italians also full of diving. It was an exaggerated fall in the first half that sent off a French player.

Remember the game against Australia in 2006 WC.

There was a clear corner call for France in 80 minute plus, but it was not awarded. Either the white referee was an Italian fan or just dont like almost all black French team.

you must be oover-sensitive to racism or are a racist yourself. only racists think the way you do. I've said it once, I'll say it again, Brazil made "diving" an acceptable art form in the game of soccer. However, in this game against the French, as well as the game against Australia, if you are going to dive, it should be done at the right place at the right time. You must admit that both challenges, the one by Australia and the one by the French were both foolish moves to slide into a player inside the box. You are asking for trouble when you do something like that.

Don't mention Brazil's name in vain!

We here in Brazil know that while Nike has "destroyed" our national team in the past (1998 fix etc etc) now, it is simply a bad team with three games without a goal

@JeanneMarie

I've always been a big fan of Brazil and their loss to France in 1998 hurt me deeply. It was obvious that they surrenderd without fight but I was ever since wondering what or who stood behind all this. Now you are mentioning Nike. Can you elaborate on this please. Thanks in advance for your effort.

Stop that nonsense about racism. Deep in our hearts we are all racists, blacks included.

Ajax. The truth is the truth. I'm not going to say they invented diving, but Ronaldo was king of all divers and he is the one that made other teams start doing it. Once they saw him getting away with it, everyone started doing it. Anyone that disagrees is either blind, too young to remember, or too biased.

Don't blame Ronaldo. Everyone has brains for a good football. Divers are loosers.

Wilikid, if what you just stated is the truth, diving players like Ronaldo are losers. In that case Italy is a winner, therefore, not a diving team!

NANDO71

players diving has been going on way before ronaldo to blame brasil for your team diving is pathetic !!!!!!!!

The Italian is full of game fixing and corruption. The cheating may have spread even in their international games.

Even Sepp Blatter apologized to the Australians for that obvious diving.

TalentScout,

France playing in the African Nations Cup ?? This has to be one of the funniest soccer stories that I've heard in a lonmg time !! But I think you're right, considering how many black African players they have in the squad.

We must now be careful not to offend Soccerly's racist sensitivities !!!

Hey Soccerly,

We are all racists, but you think that you can justified in saying something racist, because, you are not (obviously) white.

You are a racist of the worst kind and you can go and screw yourself !!!!

If France is included in the African Cup, you must include, England and Germany in the same as well. Further, Holland should play in the Oceania's Cup. I would very much like that arrangement because Italy may win more European Cups!

ajax72

21 June 2008 16:08

Even a better arrangement will be if UEFA leaves only San Marino, Vatican and Italy. Thus Italy is guaranteed at least the 3rd place. LOL.

Ajax72, that's a great idea. Why didn't I think of it? I may even go against Italy and cheer for the Vatican! I forgot to include Portugal in the list of European nations to be part of the African Cup. PS.Check the article "Comeback Kings... Turkey (10 replies)

And what about Italy when it will , inevitably, include Balotelli in its team? African Cup too?
