Kilmarnock Snap Up Sammon From Derry City
KILMARNOCK (SW) - Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock announced the signing of 21 year old Irish striker Conor Sammon to a 3 year contract from Derry City, of the League of Ireland. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Sammon, who has made one appearance for the Irish U-23 team, had also drawn interest from SPL newcomers Hamilton Academical.
Sammon will provide much needed support on offense, after new signing Allan Russell was injured during pre-season. "Allan is not as bad as first feared, but he will probably miss the first two or three games of the season," stated manager Jim Jeffries on Monday prior to signing Sammon. Despite the additions of Russell and Sammon, Kilmarnock are still searching for another striker during the July transfer window.
Sammon scored seven goals in 20 appearances for Derry City in 2007-08, his only season at the club. In 2007, during his time at University College Dublin, he was nominated for the PFAI Young Player of the Year award. He has one cap for the Ireland U-23 national team.
