Barcelona on Wednesday dismissed a FIFA statement calling on clubs to release players under 23 for the Olympics, saying it will not reverse its decision to prevent Argentine striker Lionel Messi from competing in the Games.

"How do you like them apples?" We seem to have a feud here. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Can FIFA punish Barca for non compliance?

If I were Sepp Blatter, I would come down so hard in Barcelona that they wouldn't know what hit them. And honestly, Barcelona's top brass would be fools to stand against FIFA. I know instant relegation is a bit harsh, but how about a very sizable fine?

Points deduction! FIFA aren't realistically going to do that, though. Barcelona are acting like spoiled brats, though. They don't want to follow the rules and they think they can get away with it, because they are Barca. Sepp Blatter needs to get Platini involved. If Platini can threaten Barca with a UEFA sanction, then there would be some compliance (hopefully). And besides, Barcelona isn't a team of nobodies!
