CALI (SW) - America de Cali have won the Colombian championship for the thirteenth time ever, which leaves them in joint first place with Millonarios of Bogotá. Independiente de Medellin were beaten 3-1 after losing 0-1 in the first leg played last Wednesday.
Medellin had a good start as Diego Alvarez scored on 17 minutes and levelled the aggregate score, but the sold out Pascual Guerrero stadium would soon be celebrating as Gustavo Ramos made it 1-1 and left America back in charge.
Jamell Ramos then netted an own goal on the hour mark and Jaime Cordoba made it 3-1 with just a minute to play to give America a comfortable 4-1 aggregate victory over their opponents.
Medellin's Oscar Perez hit an opponent in the face in added time, with a red card as result.
As far as championships are concerned, América no share the top spot with Millonarios who were traditionally one of Colombia's stronger sides but haven't won a title in twenty years.
