Fiorentina´s Mutu whistled and insulted by Steaua fans
BUCHAREST (AFP) - Fiorentina's Romanian international Adrian Mutu was whistled and insulted by opposing Steaua Bucharest fans and banners were unveiled referring to his positive test for cocaine at Wednesday's Champions League match.
The Bucharest supporters behaviour had been anticipated by the former Chelsea player on his internet site on Monday when he said he expected to be confronted by "a hostile atmosphere" because "that was the mentality of the Steaua fan."
Banners, among others, read: "Mutu, your nostrils are bleeding," and "Mutu, national team dealer."
Mutu was fined earlier this year 17.2 million euros by FIFA to pay to Chelsea over his failed drugs test.
Mutu was hit with the massive fine, which relates to his positive cocaine test in 2004 while playing for the Premier League club.
Fiorentina earned qualification for the UEFA Cup after beating Steaua 1-0, condemning the Bucharest team to bottom spot in Group F.
