ATHENS/BREMEN (SW) - Panathinaikos beat Anorthosis Famagusta to join Internazionale in the next round of the Champions League. The Cypriots remain empty-handed as Werder won over Inter to secure a spot in the UEFA Cup.
The only goal in Greece was scored by Karagounis in the 69th minute, and was enough for Panathinaikos to finish the group stage in first place ahead of Internazionale.
Even a spot in the UEFA Cup turned out to be too much to ask for Anorthosis, as Werder Bremen beat Inter 2-1 in Germany.
Pizarro opened the score shortly after the hour mark and Rosenberg doubled the gap with nine minutes to go. Zlatan Ibrahimovic got a late goal for Inter and temporarily quieted the home fans, but Werder held on to their lead to secure a spot in Europe's second club tournament.
With ten points from six games, Panathinaikos surpass Internazionale for first place, as the Italians have two points less. Werder Bremen finish with seven points, Anorthosis with six.
