Steaua Bucharest

BUCHAREST (SW) - Romanian side Steaua Bucharest are through to the Champions League group phase, at the expense of Turkish giants Galatasaray.

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, anything was still possible for the second match played in Romania's capital city, Bucharest, on Wednesday.

Galatasaray needed an away goal to make a difference but it was Nicolita to put the home side ahead instead, in the 58th minute.

While Steaua have been struggling to get to the top in recent years, they were one of Europe's better teams in the 80's with one UEFA Champions Cup victory in 1986 and a second place in 1989.

Big Shame for UEFA.. After scandal referee in first match who gave lots of erronous decisions and missed a clear penalty, in second game Staua scored a goal in a position where scorer is in one meter offside.

Unfortunately it's one of the biggest disappointment in Galatasaray history because we couldn't qualify from qualifying rounds for first time. We are sooo sorry about this situation.

As i said before Gs board made a huge mistake thereby appointed Skibbe as coach, ın my opinion this is main reason of our poor performance so far. I watched several matches during pre-season, one league and two CL qualifying round matches but completely we play very bad and we barely won our last league match.
