Panama’s Tauro defeated Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA 2-0 Tuesday night in the first leg of a CONCACAF Champions League preliminary-round series.

Edwin Aguilar scored in each half for El Tauro.

The second leg of the home-and-home, total-goals series will be played next Tuesday at Carson, Calif.

Eight preliminary round winners will advance to the group stage of the tournament, which replaces the CONCACAF Champions Cup. MLS’s Houston and D.C. United received automatic berths in the group stage, which opens Sept. 16.

I wonder why the Revolution played if they have an automatic berth? This is a bit confusing. Oh, well, I'm not much of a fan of Chivas here.

they didnt have an automatic berth, DC United (Supporter's Shield winner) and Houston Dynamo (MLS Cup winners) had the automatic berths.

as for Chivas, it sucks to be them right now. i think all but 3 regular starters are injured and their subs keep getting injured too. they have no one...lol

Thanks for correcting me OneLoveSoccer on the teams.

Yeah, the MLS gets four bids into CONCACAF Champions League at this time: MLS Cup winner (group stage), MLS Supporters' Shield winner (group stage), MLS Cup runner-up (preliminary round) and US Open Cup winner (preliminary round). And, of course, Toronto FC cannot qualify through the MLS (and certainly cannot participate in the US Open Cup).

Slight correction: the USA gets four bids. The MLS as a whole could get as many as five.
