Reserves beckon for Berbatov

AFP - 25 August 2008 19:40

Tottenham will dump striker Dimitar Berbatov, seen here in July 2008, in the reserves if Manchester United do not come up with the 30million pounds (42 million euros) they want for the 27-year-old Bulgarian striker who has handed in a transfer request to try to force a move.

LONDON (AFP) - Tottenham will dump striker Dimitar Berbatov in the reserves if Manchester United do not come up with the 30million pounds (42 million euros) they want for the 27-year-old Bulgarian striker who has handed in a transfer request to try to force a move.

With the transfer window to close on September 1, United will have to look sharp if they are to make a move for the sharpshooter, whose unsettled stance led coach Juande Ramos to leave him on the bench for Saturday's defeat to Sunderland.

Ramos deemed him psychologically unfit to play and a threat to dressing-room harmony - and media reports in London on Monday said he faced being banished from the first team altogether.

Ramos and Berbatov held talks Sunday but the key to the outcome is whether United can come up with the cash to land their man.

Earlier this summer, Spurs had complained to the Premier League in the belief United had tapped up the forward.

With Robbie Keane having joined Liverpool, Spurs, who have lost their opening two league fixtures, would have only Darren Bent as an out-and-out striker should they offload Berbatov.

Radamel Falcao of Argentine side River Plate has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, as has Wigan's veteran front man Emile Heskey

Such a shame I can't see the end of this saga... Berbatov won't play for Totenham and there are two options for the Spurs - To sell him to United and take 25M pounds which can help them to buy a new striker and help them stay in Premiership or they can keep Berba on the bench with the reserves and slowly sink to the bottom with no money from him and paying his salary for nothing.... Spurs simply have the worst transfer politics ever!!!

I see you understand football perfectly :D Just don't remember when United said they will leave Ronaldo in the reserves...and Totenham already did this against Sunderland

pls don't compare between ronaldo transfer saga and berbetov transfer saga

between ronaldo and berbetov or real madrid and totenham transfer saga, this two is different situation !!

even though ronaldo is not going to real madrid but he is staying with the club (man

utd) that won double champ trophies and playing for champions league . that why ronaldo got nothing to lose

while berbetov is alway be a loser if he playing for the team like Tottenham Hotspurs, spurs is not the right club to play for higher level bcause they are not even qualified to play for champions league or win any trophies

Tottenham are being real dickheads in this situation. They will not get one over on Fergie. He has offered them more and still they are not happy. They will end up with egg on their faces, and a 25 million pound striker who doesn't want to play for them, in the reserves. Common sense must prevail in the end.....for the sake of football in general.

Well as I said, Manchester can go for Huntelaar if they can't get Berba because a striker is needed at the club. Rooney's too ineffective goal-wise.

Spurs are rushing some guy playing for a Russian Club, Pavyluchenko? in to play , watch Tottenham get hot some time this season and these 6 frigging points will count a lot and we know still, their opponents, Newcastle and Sunderland are very good but still. Very dissapointing Berbatov, you know, as I read elsewhere, Fergie might whisper into some guys ear, "how would you like to play for the greatest team in the world" but this Pavyluchenko ought to be good, I think he played for the Russian Nat. Team at the Euro.
