Inter win Super Coppa after penalties

Inter captain Javier Zanetti scored the winning penalty

ROME (SW) - Internazionale have won the Italian Super Coppa for the fourth time in history, beating AS Roma on penalties. Francesco Totti had a chance to decide the clash before but failed.

Inter began the second half with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Muntari in the 18th minute, but De Rossi levelled the score close to the hour mark.

Balotelli's goal with seven minutes to go seemed to be enough for the Nerazzurri to take Italy's first trophy of the year but Vucinic headed home from a Pizarro corner in the 90th minute to force extra time.

No goals were scored in extra time and penalties were needed to decide the first official match of the season.

Vucinic, Ibrahimovic, Baptista, Balotelli and Cassetti all scored but Inter's Stankovic was less fortunate and hit the crossbar.

De Rossi and Maxwell then made no mistakes and Francesco Totti himself had the chance to decide the match but he as well hit the crossbar.

Cambiasso went on to level the score, followed by successful penalties from Pizarro and Jimenez. Juan Became then became the first player to have a penalty saved by Julio Cesar, and Zanetti finished it off for Internazionale.

The Super Coppa win is Inter's fourth, after taking the trophy in 1989, 2005 and 2006.
