Arsenal sign Silvestre

Dave Cohen - 20 August 2008 22:05

Chelsea's Didier Drogba (C) vies for the ball with United's Wes Brown (R) and Mikael Silvestre (R)

It’s official. Mikaël Silvestre has joined Arsenal from Manchester United.

The thirty one year old French international defender left Old Trafford earlier today after a nine year stay with Manchester United for The Emirates Stadium.

He signed a two year deal but the fee has not been disclosed.

He said that he needed a challenge in the latter stages of his career and will remember his nine years with United with much fondness. He hoped that his experience will help the younger members of the squad develop into an effective and successful unit.

He is expected to join his new team-mates immediately.
