Previous coach Djukic was given less than a year at the Serbian national team

BELGRADE (SW) - Radomir Antic has been named coach of the Serbian national team, where he succeeds the recently fired Miroslav Djukic.

After the disappointing performance at the Olympic Games in China, the Serbian football association decided that it was time for change.

Antic, who made one appearance for the Yugoslavia national team as player in 1973, spent all of his coaching career in Spain. In that country, he managed Zaragoza, Real Madrid, Real Oviedo (twice), Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and Celta de Vigo.

After a four-year break, The 63-year-old now returns to work and faces a tough task in World Cup qualification. Serbia share a group with France and Romania, but play their opening match against the Faroe Islands on September 6th.
