It has been reported that the pending transfer of Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg and Tottenham Hotspur may be on the rocks.
It is believed that Tottenham Hotspur are now not prepared to meet the ₤20 million that has been asked for by their Russian counterparts.
Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter denied that the asking price had been lowered. It was thought that the money received by the London – based club from the sale of Dimitar Berbatov would be used for the Russian playmaker’s purchase, but no deal has yet been signed between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for Berbatov.
Two clubs, yet to be named, one from Spain and one from Italy, are known to be extremely interested in Arshavin should the Tottenham negotiations collapse.
Arshavin himself has expressed a desire to play in England.
