Freddie Ljungberg targeted in Italy

Dave Cohen - 15 August 2008 05:39

Swedish international and former Arsenal and West Ham United midfielder Freddie Ljungberg in action for West Ham United

Former Arsenal and West Ham United midfielder Freddie Ljungberg could be on his way to Italy.

This is according to the Swedish international’s agent, fellow Swede, Klas Elefalk.

Elefalk revealed yesterday that he had been receiving calls every day about the availability of Ljungberg from interested Serie A sides that are very keen to buy him.

Elefalk added that there were at least five clubs who, at this stage, appeared extremely keen.

He certainly was good for Arsenal. If that Ibramahovic plays for Inter is it? Perhaps that is one club looking at Ljungberg.

I do not believe that any Italian club would be interested in Ljungberg. Maybe in Serie B.

This guy is way past his prime, eveyone knows that !!

Or we might be looking at some B-rated clubs in Italy like Torino, Udinese, Sampdoria........etc

Actually Torino might be a bottom-half Serie A club, but definitely not Udinese and Sampdoria, both of which regularly finish in the top 6-8 and qualify for UEFA cup.

no way, this is a PR stunt so that the MLS will actually pay him what he wants. he is coming to the MLS, but he is asking WAY too much and by stating that Serie A clubs want him, he can justify his asking price.

the MLS needs to be VERY careful with guys like this. he isn't going to put THAT many more butts into the seats but is still asking for a salary that would make you think so. players like Beckham, Henry, Blanco are good to get because they have MASSIVE names, despite their age. While Ljungberg is a great player, he just isn't well known enough to be worth the investment.

Beckham is good but a media star as well, Henry shouldn't be mentioned in the same breathe as a Mickey Mouse League like the MLS.

Ljungberg did not realise his potential with West Ham because he got injured, a broken rib. He was team captain. I'd like to see how great the idiots who criticise him would do in the same games.
