LONDON (AFP) - Tottenham defender Gareth Bale signed a new contract on Wednesday that will keep the Wales international at White Hart Lane until 2012.

Bale, 19, made just 12 appearances during an injury-hit debut season with the Premier League club, but boss Juande Ramos is convinced he can be a key figure in his revamped team.

"We are delighted to announce that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract that will see him commit his future to the Club until 2012," a statement on the club's website read.
