Trial for Ben Thatcher at West Ham United

6 August 2008 19:26

Ben Thatcher (L) of Charlton Athletic in a tussle with Didier Drogba of Chelsea in the 2006/7 season

West Ham United are very much in the news at present regarding “players in” and “players out”.

Coming directly on the heels of the earlier news of the day that The Hammers had released Freddie Ljungberg is the announcement that Ben Thatcher has been given a trial at West Ham United.

The thirty two year old left back was released by fellow London club and Championship side Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

Thatcher was sidelined for much of last season with a knee injury.

He has also been on trial at Ipswich and Wolverhampton Wanderers, both of which are in the Championship.

Curbishley is showing his tactical 'flair' by looking for ageing ex charlton players to challenge for Europe... I would love to see 'mr note-book' prove me wrong, and from his pig-nosed little whistling chops hear him describe how he'll be approaching a home game against Real Madrid in the 2009/2010 Champions league. I sort of dont see it.

Curbishley looks distinctly bland in pretty much every way, and his dull aspirations to achieve mid-table obscurity is misguided. West Ham are a flair team! If they are not able to play good football then they are not West Ham.

A 0-0 draw is not a decent result it is a bore. Curbishley has til Christmas.

WHo for the job? Stuart Pearce, Man City was too big for him, his face didnt fit. He is one of us. WIth a bit more experience he would be ideal. Mad Dog Allen, maybe, but needed to impress at Leicester and didnt. Ince... unlikely!!!

Ben is a dirty little git as well; he doesn’t belong in the top flight.

Bubble blower, I appreciate your concerns but sometimes you will have to accept a nil-nil draw if it keeps you in the premiership. Curbishley will keep you up but admittedly I can’t see your team flaunting their flare at the Bernabau or San Siro just yet!
