Spain defended their first spot in FIFA ranking

ZÜRICH (SW) - Spain continue to occupy the first spot in the FIFA world ranking, while Germany surpass Italy to move into second place.

With little international action in July, not many points were earned. Yet, several changes did occur as older points stopped being valid for the ranking.

Both Germany and Italy lost points that way, but the Azzurri gave up more than the Germans, who now take the second place on the table.

The Netherlands climb a spot to fourth place, followed by Croatia in fifth. The first non-European team is Brazil in sixth place, with Argentina just behind in seventh.

The ranking:

1. Spain 1557

2. Germany 1343

3. Italy 1320

4. Netherlands 1299

5. Croatia 1282

6. Brazil 1242

7. Argentina 1219

8. Czech Republic 1146

9. Portugal 1122

10. Russia 1023

200+ clear of the next team: Spain is much like Brazil and France use to be in dominating the world rankings, top 5 teams are all European and though that is open to debate, I think they deserve it per Euro '08. Check www.eloratings.net for another view: and see to, the Vatican once fielded a team...playing Monaco or someone like that.

Yes! The then Pope, John Paul II, played goaly. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, played center forward. The Cardinal of Toronto, Emmet Carter, was the sweeper. Rev. Tony Blair was in defence. Philadelphia Cardinal Rigali was the left wing and the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Fred Tontodonati was the referee. The Vatican, naturally, won the game against San Marino 4-1. In fact, Tonto, believe it or not, scored one of the goals for the Vatican team!

Where is England? The self proclaimed founders of football........LOL!!!!!!!!!! Keep buying that International talent and allowing your own guys to suck. Of note: No other teams in Europe want English players....hmmmm, wonder why? ...could it be they just suck!!!!Oh yeah, that's it.
