Keane can be my perfect partner, says Torres

AFP - 5 August 2008 13:48

New Liverpool signing Robbie Keane gives a press conference at the club´s Melwood training complex, in Liverpool, north-west England, on July 29. Fernando Torres believes his partnership Keane can help Liverpool end their 18-year wait to win the Premier League.

LIVERPOOL, England (AFP) - Fernando Torres believes his partnership with Robbie Keane can help Liverpool end their 18-year wait to win the Premier League.

Torres linked up with Keane for the first time since his 20-million-pounds move from Tottenham in Saturday's 4-0 friendly win over Rangers.

The strike duo formed an instant rapport and Torres was impressed by his new team-mate's contribution.

"He's a fantastic player and an important player for us," Torres said. "I hope he can score a lot of goals for Liverpool and that I can play alongside him many times.

"We've only been training together for a few days so it's not a lot of time, but the important thing for me is that he is always talking during games.

"The understanding between us and Steven Gerrard is important as well. He is the midfielder who is passing the ball to myself and Robbie and so the more training we do together the more good things we can do for Liverpool."

If Liverpool are to mount a sustained challenge for the Premier League, Torres, who scored his first goal of pre-season at Ibrox, knows he will have to reproduce last season's goal spree.

He is full of confidence after helping Spain win Euro 2008 and has set his sights on landing more silverware this season.

"It was perfect to score my first goal because that's always important for strikers. I've only been training for one week and so it's understandable to feel tired," he said. "The idea is to arrive fit and ready for the start of the Premier League season.

"It was a fantastic summer for Spain but now my thoughts are with Liverpool. Hopefully we will win a trophy - I want to win the Premier League or the Champions League."

Dream on Torres. Liverpool won't even win the Micky Mouse Cup this year.

You guys are idiots liverpool have the best striker in the world playing with keane who is good at assists as well there young players coming in like babel and ngog who are awesome thay have an excellent midfield including gerrard alonso banayoun and mascherano they can win if they pull ou the right tactics and thats what benitez cant do and they also need to strengthen their work and teamwork in defense

Liverpool have become nothing more than a joke team. Anyone who remembers the great Liverpool teams of years ago, must be crying in their beer now.

Man U waited damn long before they win the title too.....

Liverpool's biggest problem is Rafa........

when Liverpool was dominating, the team was not as technically good as Everton.....................

Liverpool are living on past glorys. The team today is no more than an average Premier league team, with not much talent. They are inconsistent, and without Torres and Gerrard would end up mid table at most.

There is not such a thing as "past" when achievements in any field are regarded. A trophy won 50 years ago is as good as the one won this year. Otherwise what you win today will have no value tomorrow.

Well stated Ajax....P Hughes first off United will win squat this year (nothing). Liverpool without Gerrard and Torres is like MU without CR7 and Evra. All teams have their key players, so what is your point. You talk of middle table in the EPL, just watch where MU will be this year until Ronaldo returns, and watch how bad they will become after he leaves in the January transfer window. LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Liverpool rule and have the hardware to back it up. Most EPL titles, most CL titles and several hundred more including FA Cups, Cmmunity Shields, League Cups, etc. Glory in the past is still glory, and despite MU winning the most recently, Liverpool is still Englands greatest footballing club. So zip your yapper until ManU are worthy....highly doubt it will ever happen any time soon.
