Sneijder injury not as bad as feared

Jonathan Roorda - 4 August 2008 16:17

Wesley Sneijder was brought down by a harsh challenge from Abou Diaby

MADRID (SW) - Real Madrid's Wesley Sneijder might not be as seriously injured as fear initially. This is the outcome of tests performed on Monday.

Sneijder was stretchered off the pitch during Real's friendly match with Arsenal on Sunday, and club officials feared an absence of up to six months.

The tests point out that the player tore one of his internal knee ligaments, which would keep him out for around three months.

This is relatively good news, as initially it was feared that the Dutchman also tore the cruciate ligament in his knee. This turned out not to be the case.

In the best case, Sneijder might even be able to return to action in two months from now.

That's very good news, I felt really disappointed by the news last night as I would have liked to see him play versus Santa Fé on Wednesday, in Bogotá.

A bit of rough hitting I saw by Chivas Guadalajara against Barcelona. Why? These are friendlies. Iniesta was getting knocked around, no one else really. They should take it easier in these preseason games.

A seven year old schoolboy could knock Iniesta off the ball.

Friendly or not, the players on these teams are fighting for a spot on the first team, and possibly a starting position. They're not going to take it easy...or as easy as some think they should. Recover soon, Sneijder...you're a pleasure to watch.
