Anelka hits four as Chelsea thrash AC Milan

AFP - 3 August 2008 16:33

Nicolas Anelka (R) of Chelsea fights for the ball with Matheiu Flamini of Milan in the bronze game of the pre-season´s Russian Railways Cup tournament in Moscow. An impressive four-goal rout by Nicolas Anelka helped English Premier side Chelsea thrash Italian giants Milan 5-0 in a pre-season Railway Cup tournament.

MOSCOW (AFP) - An impressive four-goal rout by Nicolas Anelka helped English Premier side Chelsea thrash Italian giants AC Milan 5-0 in Sunday's pre-season Railway Cup tournament here.

Chelsea got off to a flyer after just two minutes, taking the lead through a Frank Lampard freekick, which Milan goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac was unable to deal with.

Six minutes later Anelka netted the first of his tally with a precise shot from the edge of the box.

The French international made it 3-0 in the 18th minute to give Chelsea a commanding lead in the third-place play-off, sending the ball into an unguarded net after an error by Kalac.

Six minutes after the break Anelka notched up his hat-trick, nodding home from close range after a cross from fellow Frenchman Florent Malouda.

Anelka rounded off his scoring feat in the 58th minute when he got on to the end of another Malouda in-swinger.

Hosts Lokomotiv Moscow are set to play Spanish side Sevilla - UEFA Cup winners in 2006 and 2007 - in the tournament final.

Actually Milan fielded a team of mostly youngsters and reserves, so there isn't much to read in these pre-championship games.

A final score of 5-0 looks most impressive, but where was Anelka the whole of last season and I'm wondering where he's going to be when the real business begins.

Youngsters and reserves? What are you talking about? Maldini, Zambrotta, Gattuso, Jankulovski, Pirlo, Flamini, Ambrosini are neither youngsters, LOL, nor reserves. Bar Kaka Milan doesn't have a player that would have made difference. Let's see what it doesn't have: 1. coach, 2. goalie, 3. central defenders, 4. fullbacks, 5. experienced, but not overaged striker, 6. substitutes for Seedorf and Gattuso. ATM the team has the depth of a pancake pan. Friendly or not, this should ring a bell.

Anelka is not the point, Milan is :D

they still keeping that clumsy and slow Kalac ????????

5-0..............i'm sure Milan lost on purpose.............to lull others into thinking Milan is just a team full of old farts that are way past their expiry dates..............DOL...........

they might lose the next game 6-0 to make their ploy more convincing...........LOL

the french can be way better under good management, they could even beat teams like spain ,italy,brazil,and argentina if they didnt have raymond domenech to make all the mistakes

My team got creamed! My congratulations go to Chelsea. However, the real McCoy has not started yet!

Chelsea as well may not have been playing their first squad. It is about time, Anelka did something though. I haven't found a story of what squads were playing but there are number of stories on the game out there. Deco played so this was a strong Chelsea squad that played but he is also new there.

DaJohnner

3 August 2008 20:53

Anelka is not first team player....that will be Drogba and a slightly forward Deco or Lampard behind him. So bottom line is Chelsea is ready to begin and Milan are still preparing. Both will be better and ready.

dudishmow, your quote: "all Italians are past their expiration dates." Would that be the same as if I were to say : "All Spanish are idiots?"

Italian Teams are very nostalgic...they like to live in the past!!...Long gone are those days when Milan were feared ...Now its just some tired legs playing clumsy football...Neither Flamini nor Ronaldinho can make things wrok for them

DaJohnner, you're wrong again! the term International (referring to a previous article) means "between, or among nations." It does not have anything to do whether nations are invited or qualify! for a given tournament. Further, "disillution" does not apply to me but to you. You are the one who believes Liverpool is the cat's meow regardless. If you read my posts, I'm always ready to congratulate opponents when they beat my AC Milan!

DaJohnner, here is a list of the number of nations that participated in the various W. Cups prior to your "first international WC" of 1954:

1930 = 13 nations

1934 = 16 nations (same as from 1954 to the year FIFA increased the number to 32)

1938 = 15 nations

1950 = 13 nations

in all these previous world cups you fail to mention that more than half the teams were from south america and didnt include any superpowers of soccer. The USA.....finishing 4th?, enough said.

Fred my friend, I watched the highlights of this game and I am sorry to say but Milan was a comedy of errors. Admittedly this was only a friendly but Milan looked as if they had forgotten all the basics of football. The Chelsea rent boys looked very strong and again look like the only serious challengers to United's EPL crown this season!

care to share who played for Milan ?

and did Anelka run rings round Maldini ?

at the end of the game, did the Milan grandpas look like my avatar ?

BesTalent, team sheet below.

GOALSCORERS: 3’ Lampard (C), 8’, 19’, 50’, 58’ Anelka (C)

CHELSEA (4-3-3): Cech (71’ Cudicini) – Ivanovic (61’ P.Ferreira), Alex, Terry (61’ Carvalho), A.Cole – Ballack (46’ Deco), Mikel, Lampard – S.W.Philips (77’ Sinclair), Anelka (66’ Shevchenko), Malouda. Coach: Scolari.

MILAN (4-5-1): Kalac – Bonera (46’ Paloschi), Maldini (46’ Digao), Simic (46’ Kaladze), Favalli (64’ Antonini); Zambrotta, Gattuso, Flamini, Jankulovski, Pirlo – Ambrosini (46’ Seedorf). Coach: Ancelotti.

Unfortunately Le Sulk didn’t have to run much as Milan's defence was in serious disarray.

And finally, after the fifth goal went in there were a few players with a similar expression to your avatar!

ajax72

4 August 2008 13:34

kalac, maldii, bonera, simic, favalli, zambrotta, jankulovski, gattuso, flamini, pirlo, ambrosini.

Chelsea didn't excel but Milan was one of the worst sights on a football pitch I've ever seen. To be honest after the first 15 min I watched the game on and off but I don't believe I've missed something worth mentioning. BTW I don't know what substitutions Ancelotti made, if any.

4 August 2008 13:41

DaJohnner, I think you should ask Ajax72 for his Soccer Almanac. Here we go again!

1930 = 7 S.American nations; 4 European + 2 other

1934 = 2 S.American and 12 European + 2 other

1938 = 1 S.American and 12 European +2 other

1950 = 5 S.American and 6 European + 2 other.

Enough said?

Newtonheath, I know, In fact I was the first one to congratulate Chelsea. I'm not DaJohnner. He's the one suffering from delusions of grandeur! BTW, did you receive my e-mails?

newtonheath1878

4 August 2008 13:56

Hi Fred, hope you are well. No I haven’t read your emails yet, but they will be there in my inbox but as I stated the other day I have had a nasty problem with my PC. Without going into too much detail my young lad manage to corrupt my files via an online game he has been playing. I should get the chance to install my backup files this evening and get things back to normal.

Onto the Milan game, I hope it doesn’t come across as a dig at Milan as any team that are given the opportunity to get one over on Chelski will always have my support. Unfortunately Fred, Milan was below average and that is being kind to the Rossonieri!

Newtonheath my Man,

You're a star !! That is exactly what I was looking for !! Where did you find it ?

Thanks a lot buddy, I owe you one !!!

newtonheath - thanks a million

Milan seems to be using most of the 1st team...............maybe if Maldini had played the 90min, it would have been 6-0.........

Kalac is a disaster - slow and clumsy

Kaladze and Simic - over the hill years ago

Ambrosini - still around ?!

Favalli - Jesus, this guy still around !? he was great at Lazio though

Milan's numero uno problemo is the old and ageing defense............with the defense so fragile, the midfield can't move forward with confidence.........

BestTalent,

I have to agree with you.

I didn't watch the game, but they must have been absolutely pathetic to lose 5-0 (to Chelsea, or any other side).

Ancelotti was very angry after the match, so we'll see if this is a wake-up call !!
