It was announced in Belgrade today by the Serbian Football Association that they have made a strong appeal to the fans not to fight after a football fan was killed in soccer – related violence earlier in the week.
This appeal came on the eve of tonight’s Cup semi – finals. The first match scheduled is between Zemun and OFK Belgrade. This will be followed by the clash between Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade.
On Monday a twenty seven year old man was shot dead while a seventeen year old boy was seriously wounded when rival fans of Vojvodina Novi Sad and Partizan Belgrade clashed at the Futog railway station in the city of Novi Sad. The attack had been pre – arranged. Forty other people were injured while thirty arrests had been made by the police.
Wednesday's semi-final between Cup holders Red Star Belgrade and bitter city foes Partizan is expected to be played amid tight security as the fixture has a history of crowd trouble.
