ROTTERDAM, Apr 13 (SW) - SC Heerenveen wasted a big chance to secure a spot in the Dutch Champions League play-offs, in which numbers two to five battle for one spot in the third preliminary round of the European tournament.
Heerenveen visited Sparta Rotterdam and led 0-2 by half time with goals from Pranjic and Sibon.
But the match changed in the second half, with a much stronger home side. Dissels and Boukhari brought the score back to 2-2, after which goals from Polak (penalty) and Emnes eventually earned Sparta an impressive 4-2 win.
Feyenoord, Heerenveen's rivals for a spot within the top five, allowed Willem II to score three goals in the first half in Tilburg, with Demouge hitting the net twice and Boutahar once. A goal from Bahía in the 74th minute was too little, too late for Bert van Marwijk's side, 3-1.
Heerenveen and Feyenoord have the same amount of points, but Heerenveen's goal record is better.
Next week, Feyenoord host Roda JC while Heerenveen face Excelsior Rotterdam at home.
