BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand's national football coach said Thursday that he would stick with the team for the remaining World Cup qualifiers, despite calls for him to quit after their defeat against Oman.

Thailand lost to Oman last week 1-0 at home in a strong blow to their World Cup qualifying hopes.

"There are two groups of people -- the first demanded my immediate resignation, the second group wanted me to continue to work," Thai coach Chanvit Phalajivin said.

"So my compromise is that I will continue my work as national team coach for the next four matches," he told AFP.

"After that, it will depend on the Football Association (of Thailand). Maybe they will want someone to replace me, or maybe they will want me to go on working, depending on my performance in the next four matches."

Oman scored a goal within the first minute of their March 26 match.

The loss prompted the resignation of the team's manager, Kittirat Na Ranong, and leaves the national squad at the bottom of Group 2 with zero points.

Thailand is scheduled to play Bahrain at home on June 2 and away on June 7. The team will also play second legs of their matches against Japan and Oman on June 14 and June 22.
