Hajduk Split president resigns amidst crisis

24 September 2007 12:55

ZAGREB (AFP) - Hajduk Split's president announced his resignation on Monday, blaming the struggling Croatian side's recent run of poor results.

Branko Grgic said he was stepping down for "moral reasons" after Hajduk Split's 4-0 loss in Rijeka on Saturday.

"The team has had poor results, and I'm getting tired of it. As a president I'm the most responsible for the performance which is far below expectations," Grgic, who has run the club since 2000, told journalists.

Hajduk Split, arch rivals to reigning champions Dinamo Zagreb, are placed fifth after nine games and were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Sampdoria in the second preliminary round.
