MADRID (AFP) - Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, out of action since July because of a left knee injury, will be fit to play for Iceland in their Euro 2008 qualifier later this week, the club said Monday.
"The injury to the players left knee has progressed nicely in recent days, and following a series of tests, Barca and the Icelandic federation have been involved in discussions and have come to the conclusion that he is fine to play for his national side this week," it said in a statement.
Iceland receive Northern Ireland in Reykjavik Wednesday in a Group F match.
Northern Ireland are in second place in the group with 16 points from eight games while Iceland are sixth with five points.
Gudjohnsen, who turns 29 later this month, missed Iceland's 1-1 draw at home to Spain on Saturday. Barcelona face Osasuna on Sunday in the Spanish league.
