Jarni hopes 13 is lucky for him at Hajduk Split

ZAGREB (AFP) - Croatian First Division side Hajduk Split on Tuesday named former international Robert Jarni its new coach, becoming their 13th in just seven years.

The 39-year-old who was part of the Croatia team that reached the 1998 World Cup semi-finals replaces Sergije Kresic, who resigned on Friday for personal reasons only two months after taking up the post.

Jarni - who played for Hajduk - expressed some optimism that Hajduk could turn their fortunes around, they lie third in the title race after 13 matches but are 14 points adrift of leaders Dynamo Zagreb.

"The fact that Hajduk have conceded no goals in the last three matches gives me hope that we will soon end the crisis," he said.

Jarni had a highly successful playing career, playing for the then Yugoslavia in the 1990 World Cup finals, numbering Juventus and Real Madrid among his clubs.
